Frequently Asked Questions

What effect will this have on my credit when buying a house or car?
The fact that you are on a Debt Management Program by itself should not have any effect on your ability to buy a home or car; however, the best thing to do is find out what the bank's guidelines are for qualifying.

Will this affect my credit?
The Credit Counseling Agencies that we partner with, generally do not report you to the credit reporting agencies. Your creditors report your payment history. The Counseling Agencies help by giving you a reasonable plan you can live with. In MANY cases, a debt management program is seen as a positive step by creditors.

Shouldn't I try to get a loan?
Why borrow more money at high interest? That may already be part of the problem! A Debt Management Program makes much more sense. Remember - they are helping you get lower payments and interest. And THAT'S the way to get out of debt.

What is your interest rate?
Credit Counseling Agencies are not loan companies, so they do not charge interest. They work with your creditors to lower your existing interest rates and payments...

Who are the supporters of Debt Management Agencies?
To name just a few ... Chevron, AT&T, Bank of America, J P Morgan Chase, Capital One, Citibank, Dillards, Discover, , HFC, Home Depot, Florida Hospital, G.E. Capital, , Sears, Target,WAMU, Wells Fargo. .. and many others.

Can I pay off my accounts sooner than what is set up in the program?
Yes, you can! If you decide to pay off any accounts, please call your Credit Counseling Agency. They will contact your creditor and advise you of your balances and the amount required to.

Can I use my credit cards or are the accounts closed?
Your creditors will close your accounts through this program. If your goal is to get out of debt it is tough to still use your cards and get out of debt.
